The award-winning book, Andrew Conquers the Court, is author Antonietta Tripodi Quinn's first children's book. It is inspired by the author's son, Andrew. Andrew always loved basketball! He played all the time and was excited to try out for the school team. He thought he would definitely make the team. However, after tryouts, he gets a note from his Coach that says,

Thank you for trying out for the school basketball team. I am sorry to let you know that you did not make the team. I hope you will continue to work hard and try out again next year.
-Coach

Disappointed and confused, he wonders what he should do now. Should he quit basketball - a sport he loves? Should he continue playing and try out again next year? The choice is his, but it won't be easy. The story follows Andrew through his inspirational story based on real-life events as he learns what it takes to make the team.

This story teaches students that hard work and perseverance do pay off. You just have to BELIEVE in yourself!

Who is the real-life Andrew?

The main character in the story, Andrew, is based on the author's son.

Who is Andrew today?: He is attending college at Marywood University and is studying architecture. Modern architecture designs are his favorite, and he loves to create models in his classes as he has always been a hands-on learner. Most often at school, he is in the architecture studio, in the weight room, or in the gym. In the book, Andrew has a friend named Wil (spelled correctly with one "L"). Wil and Andrew have been friends since elementary school and are both studying architecture at Marywood! Jackson does not go to Marywood, but he is still close friends with Andrew and Wil.

What are Andrew's favorite things?: Besides basketball, Andrew loves cars. He loves to learn about ways to customize his car. One of his favorite teams is the Boston Celtics. On the first page of the story, the green jersey on the wall in his room with the "0" on it represents his favorite player on the Celtics, Jayson Tatum. Andrew also loves the Pittsburgh Steelers.

What is the story behind the Dwayne Wade quote?: As Andrew became a better basketball player, he was motivated by Wade's quote, "My belief is stronger than your doubt."He really did have that quote posted in his bedroom, and it was the quote he chose for his senior quote in the high school yearbook! He took it to college, where it is now posted above his bed in his dorm room.
